Brutal Session

Just played a handful of Sit n Gos and had a pretty brutal session:

Games Played: 7
Profit: -$5
ITM: 2
Wins: 1

I played 7 games total and cashed in 2 of them. I was a little card dead in the 5 I didn’t cash in and had to go all in when I was shortstacked with dominated hands. Plus hands like this one don’t help your cause:

PokerStars No-Limit Hold’em, 11 Tournament, 50/100 Blinds (7 handed) –

UTG (t1245)
MP1 (t3590)
MP2 (t845)
CO (t1660)
Hero (Button) (t2555)
SB (t1625)
BB (t1980)

Hero’s M: 17.03

Preflop: Hero is Button with A, Q
4 folds, Hero bets t400, 1 fold, BB raises to t1980 (All-In), Hero calls t1580

Flop: (t4010) 9, 7, 8 (2 players, 1 all-in)

Turn: (t4010) 10 (2 players, 1 all-in)

River: (t4010) J (2 players, 1 all-in)

Total pot: t4010

Results:
Hero had A, Q (straight, Queen high).
BB had Q, K (straight, King high).
Outcome: BB won t4010

I pegged this guy as a pretty terrible player early on and had a gut feeling he would shove with a lot of weak hands here in an attempt to protect his blind. I was correct in my thinking when I called and had him dominated but such is poker that he hit the runner runner higher straight.

Hopefully I can get the bad beats out of my system and make a little run here this week.

To log on or not log on?

When I get the itch to play some low limit holdem I’m often faced with the decision of logging into my online poker account or making the trip to a local card room. Before you go and put your name on the $3/$6 waitlist at the MGM Grand here are some benefits that online poker offers that your local brick and mortar casino can not.

- Find a game any time of the day/afternoon/night. Want to play low limit holdem at 4:30am? Just log online and there are numerous tables for you to choose from. You can even play in your bathrobe if you wish.

- Online poker offers very low limits, $.02/$.04 in most cases, for a newbie to get their feet wet with. For a very small investment you can be playing for real money online against real people.

- The big advantage of playing online low limit holdem is the sheer number of hands you can play in an hour compared to the number you see at a casino. At your typical casino you will see 30-40 hands in one hour while online you can see 60-70 per hour. That is almost twice as many hands! Not to mention that you can play several tables at one time increasing your hands per hour even greater. This increase in number of hands you play will greatly increase the profits that you see while at the tables.

While live poker does have it’s benefits, such as being able to get tells on your opponents, the pros of playing online holdem are just that much stronger than playing live.
